Proposal Description
Proposed water Pipeline, Nqutu Magisterial District Kwa Zulu Natal.
The proposed linear activity to commence on site will stretch approximately 15.1 km, from the Vant’s Drift abstraction works to the Nquthu bulk reservoir (Terminal Reservoir). The proposed linear activity will run along the outskirts of the town Nquthu, along the R68.
The objective of the proposed development is the upgrading of infrastructure, with reference to the existing rising main, which will extend, the useful life, high lift pumping system and new rising main, to allow for future demands to be met. The upgrading of the Vant’s Drift raw water abstraction and treatment works will restore the plant to its original approximate design capacity of 170 l/s or 14,700 kl/day.
The current capacity of the Vant’s Drift high lift pumpstation and rising main is between 7.7 and 8.7 MI/day, the capacity of the pumps and the conditions of the existing rising main are currently the only constraints to the pumpstation. The key bulk infrastructure will consist of, upgrading existing high lift pump station, corrosion protection measures to existing steel rising main and the construction of a new 600 mm diameter Ductile Iron pipe from the treatment works to the Terminal reservoir in Nquthu.
