Nomination of the Ohlange Institute as National Heritage Site

Ohlange Institute was the first African directed education institute established. The Institute was founded and directed by Dr John L Dube, who was also the first president of the ANC. Through the site’s association to John Dube it is closely linked to the early history of the liberation struggle in South Africa.
