Bioarchaeological study of individuals from Koffiefontein Mine

This project will generate valuable isotope data from a yet to be studied 19th-century population of the human remains of 100 mine workers. Limited bioarchaeological studies have been performed on contemporaneous populations found in other provinces, but not the Free State. Relatively novel techniques such as 88/86Sr-a palaeodietary indicator that is measured simultaneous as 87/86Sr- may provide interesting correlations with other isotope systems.
