Makapan Pebble_Benaki Museum Exhibition

This exhibition explores the theme of the 'added' aesthetic value of fine chipped-stone artefacts recovered from early Palaeolithic sites, which have no clear functional explanation. The exhibits, handaxes, cleavers and spheroids from around the Old World and Lesbos, made before the appearance of Homo sapiens, are approached as objects of aesthetic quality and artisan craftmanship.
