Dating Lydenburg Heads Pottery

The aim of this project is to constrain the timing and age of the ceramics ascribed to the Urewe and Kalundu traditions that were excavated from the Lydenburg Heads Site, to establish if they were contemporaneous or sequential in origin.
OBJECTIVES
i. To determine the ages for the Kalundu Tradition ceramics using optically stimulated luminescence dating techniques
ii. To determine the ages for the Urewe Tradition ceramics using optically stimulated luminescence dating techniques
iii. To determine the ages of the mixed Kalundu and Urewe Tradition ceramics using optically stimulated luminescence dating techniques
iv. Compare and contrast the resultant optically stimulated luminescence ages of the singular and mixed tradition ceramics temporally and spatially.
