Proposed development of a Buffer Yard and Concrete batching plant,as part of the Impofu wind energy facility complex, near Oyster Bay, Eastern Cape Province

This application is for the proposed development of a buffer yard and concrete batching plant for the storage of turbine segments and materials, respectively. Buffer yard works include prefabricated concrete turbine segments (or keystones) will be manufactured in precast plants and transported by heavy-load vehicles to the yard. The segments will be placed in front of one another at the yard and joined vertically with flowable grout and longitudinal reinforcement bars to build tubular, tapered concrete turbine sections out of the segments. Tubular turbine sections are then stacked on top of each other at the turbine locations and joined horizontally to complete the towers.


Concrete batch plant works include materials that will be stored at the batch plant and mixed together in specific quantities to make the concrete needed for the concrete works at the Impofu cluster (foundations and blinding). There will be mixer trucks that will transport the concrete from the batch plant to the required location in the cluster. There will be weekly or bi-weekly deliveries of material to the batch plant.
