    Proposal Description
The Elders Colliery is an underground coal mine located approximately 25 km north of the town of Bethal, on the R35 provincial road in the Mpumalanga Province. Anglo Operations (Pty) Ltd (AOPL), now known as Thungela Operations (Pty) Ltd (TOPL), a member of the Thungela Resources Limited Group, submitted a section 11 application in terms of the Mineral
and Petroleum Resources Development Act (Act No. 28 of 2002) (MPRDA) to the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) to cede the Elders mining right from the then AOPL to Anglo American Inyosi Coal (Pty) Ltd (AAIC).
Currently, AAIC is applying for an integrated EA and a water use licence application (WULA) for the proposed additional water management activities (abstraction boreholes and pipelines) at Elders Colliery. The water abstracted from existing and planned boreholes will be pumped to an existing concrete farm dam.
