    Object Description

    Smoke-fired ceramic vessel of bulbous shape with short contracted upright neck. Hand-built. The black clay surface of the vessel is decorated with cuts or lines made into the clay, contrasted with white hexagonal impressions in the clay. Ceramic artist: Andile Dyalvane (b. 1978). Title of vessel: Umbhaco. Inspired by the surface designs on outfits such as the Xhosa skirt/dress 'Umbhaco'.
