    Object Description

    Framed watercolour painting depicting the Wernich family in an interior setting. Joachim Lodewyk Wernich (1730-1777), his wife Anna van Reenen, and their daughter Magdalena Elisabeth (1754) appear in the painting.

    Donated by Mr F.D. Moorees in 1966 to the former South African Cultural History Museum (SACHM), today part of Iziko Museums of South Africa's Social History Collections department.

    Framed painting of a family of three members depicted inside an interior. The people are Joachim Wernich, his wife Anna van Reenen, and their daughter Magdalena Elisabeth. Mr Wernich's arm is resting on a round table covered with a blue tablecloth. On his left is his wife, seated. In front of Mrs Wernich stands their daughter, and a dog. There is a wooden screen or wall at the back of the family, with wine barrels visible in the room at the back, also a Cape corner chair.
