REDUNDANT ASSET- The 7 class locomotive had a total of 7 variations, namely 7/ 7A / 7B / 7C / 7D / 7E and 7F. An identical locomotive of this class, Class 7A # 1007 and also a 7 BS # 1056 are preserved at the Transnet Transport Museum in George. The history of this class is captured in the publications "Locomotives of the South African Railways" by Leith Paxton and David Bourne as well as the publication Railways of Southern Africa 150 years by Jean Dulez of which copies of both publications are kept in the museum for reference purposes. Locomotive drawings and other information relating to this class is in safe custody at the Transnet Heritage Library.
In consultation with experts this locomotive was identified as not having any heritage significance. A similar locomotive representing this type/class of locomotive is preserved.
