REDUNDANT ASSET . An identical locomotive of this class - Locomotive Class 24 # 3668 is preserved at the Transnet Transport Museum in George and forms part the Transnet collection. 3 other class 24 locomotives are on loan to preservation clubs while offers to purchase on 4 others have been received. The museum has two books where the history of this class is captured " Locomotive of South Africa" by Leith Paxton and David Bourne and "Railways of Southern Africa" by Jean Dulez. Drawings(plans) and other historical information relating to this class is in safe custody at the Transnet Heritage Library.
In consultation with experts this locomotive was identified as not having any heritage significance. A similar locomotive representing this type/class of locomotive is preserved.
