Interim CommentThe SAHRA Archaeology, Palaeontology, Meteorite (APM) unit notes the HIA and the recommendations provided therein. It must be noted that the title of the HIA report indicates that the development is in the North West Province, however the dEIA and .kml locates it in the Free State Province. The proposed development area is located in an area of moderate palaeontological sensitivity as per the SAHRIS PalaeoSensitivity Map. Therefore, a desktop Palaeontological Impact Assessment (PIA) must be undertaken by a qualified palaeontologist. The report must comply with the 2012 Minimum Standards: Palaeontological Components of Heritage Impact Assessments. It is noted that the commenting period on the dEIA was between 01/03/2021 and 30/03/2021, the SAHRA therefore advises the EAP to make an application to the competent authority in terms of section 21(1)b of the NEMA EIA Regulations to extend the EA process to comply with the comment.
