Response to Notice of Intent to Develop(NID)As per section 38(2)a of the NHRA (25 of 1999), the SAHRA Archaeological, Palaeontological and Meteorites (APM) Unit notes that it is unlikely that archaeological resources will be impacted by the proposed line. The proposed powerline will run in a moderately disturbed area, therefore, SAHRA's APM Unit grants an exemption on the archaeological component of the HIA in terms of section 38(2)a of the NHRA (25 of 1999).The proposed line is in area of high palaeontological sensitivity and cuts through a section of very high palaeosensitivity as per the palaeosensitivity map. A desktop assessment of the impact of the line on palaeontological resources must be undertaken, depending on the outcomes a field based assessment may be required. The assessment must be conducted by a qualified palaeontologist. The report must comply with section 38(3) of the NHRA and the SAHRA 2006 Minimum Standards: Archaeological and Palaeontological Component of Impact Assessments, and the 2012 Minimum Standards: Palaeontological Component of Heritage Impact Assessments. The Minimum Standards provides allowance for a Letter of Recommendation for Exemption that can be submitted by a qualified palaeontologist should they deem it appropriate.
Further comments will be issued upon receipt of the above.
