Interim Comment
The SAHRA Archaeology, Palaeontology, Meteorite Unit acknowledges receipt of the dBAR and HIA archaeological component along with the recommendations provided therein as well as the submission of the kml. polygon file for palaeontological assessment. As the proposed social housing development is located in an area of moderate palaeontological sensitivity, a desktop assessment of the potential impact of the proposed development on palaeontological resources must be undertaken. The assessment must be conducted by a qualified palaeontologist.
The above report must comply with section 38(3) of the NHRA and the 2007 Minimum Standards: Archaeological and Palaeontological Components of Impact Assessments and the 2012 Minimum Standards: Palaeontological Component of Heritage Impact Assessments.
Further comments will be issued upon receipt of the above. The applicant is advised to extend the EA process in terms of section 19(1)b of NEMA EIA regulations to comply with this.
