Interim Comment
The SAHRA Archaeology, Palaeontology and Meteorites (APM) Unit notes the submission of the Scoping report and the HIA report to this case for comment. SAHRA cannot provide comments on the proposed development activities without the amendement of the HIA to include the following: A tracklog map of the site visit, a map of previously identified sites in the mining area and on the boundaries of the mining area and the heritage specialist must assess if sites on the boundaries still exist and if they will be impacted.
An assessment of palaeontological resources must be undertaken by a suitably qualified palaeontologist, and the report or a letter of exemption must comply with the 2012 Minimum Standards: Palaeontological Component of Heritage Impact Assessments (a list of qualified palaeontologists can be found at https://www.palaeosa.org/heritage-practitioners.html).
Further comments will be issued upon receipt of the requested above and the submission of the EIA report.
