Historical and architectural interest
The Pinelands garden City originated with Richard Stuttaford, who actively promoted this new concept. The town planner and architect, Albert J Thompson drew up the plans in 1919. In 1923 the original section known as the Meadway was laid out and built on State land that previously formed part of the Uitvlugt Forest Reserve. This is one of the oldest so-called garden city in South Africa, 10/2/978
