Statement of Significance

Moses Kotane passed away in Moscow, Russia in 1978. He was the Secretary General of the SACP and Treasurer General of the ANC. His remains were repatriated and reburied in his hometown of Tampostad, Pella in the North West Province on 14th March 2015.

Due to his contribution to the Struggle and the important role he played in our history, President Jacob Zuma announced that his grave be declared a National Heritage Site. In preparation for this the grave was graded as a Grade 1 site in November 2014.
