Statement of Significance

This double-storeyed house with its Georgian and Romanesque features was built by Bishop Patrick Moran in 1860 as residence for the proests of St. Patrick's Cathedral. Bishop Moran was succeeded by the Rev. James David Richards, the resident priest. One of thw windows of this building bears his initials, which he engraved while testing the Eureka Diamond, the first to be identified as such, in South Africa.
