Statement of Significance

The foundation-stone of this building was laid on 30 September 1899. The church was inaugurated in November 1900. It is an imposing Neo-Gothic cruciform church that was designed by J Gaysford and that constitutes the most important architectural element in the historic centre of Calvinia.
