Statement of Significance

This Victorian building was the first post office in Montagu, also used during the Anglo-Boer War as the head quarters of the British troops, and became a residential home from about 1918. It is very well kept and largely in tact. The house froms part of a group of buildings in Church Street that are all of historical and architectural importance and they are situated within a proposed conservation area.
