Statement of Significance

The establishment of the Grey Institute is closely associated with the introduction of organised education in the Cape Province under the administration of Sir George Grey. The buildings of the Grey Institute are in the neo-Gothic style and form an essential part of the appearance and character of the historic core of Port Elizabeth.
