Statement of Significance

These Terraced Houses designed and built in 1905 are a very rare example of terrace housing in Johannesburg. These houses with their bow windows, each topped with a crenallated lintel and a gable above that with a miniature porticoed gable in classical style are infact highly fanciful, echoing the sort of Baronial architecture found in Parktown. The suburb Bertrams which was established in 1889 by Robbertson Fuller Bertram is rapidly losing its residential character and it is imperative that these charming Terrace houses be preserved for future generations.
