Statement of Significance

The house which dates from the Transvaal pioneering Era, is of historical importance due to its connection with Philippus Jacobus Wilhelmus Schutte who was the owner of the farm Buffelsdoorn from 1856 until his death in 1873. Schutte was a leading figure in the early community of the Western Transvaal and played an important role in the early years of the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek. He was also one of the founder members of the Gereformeerde Church in SA.
