Statement of Significance

The foundation-stone of the Elizabeth le Roux Hostel was laid in 1899. During the Anglo-Boer War the building was used as a hospital and in 1906 it was purchased by the first Board of Trustees of the Orange Girls High School, under the chairmanship of President M. T. Steyn, for use as a school hostel.
