Statement of Significance

This dwelling-house is a fine example of the flat-roofed type which from the late fifties of the nineteenth century replaced the houses with steep thatched roofs in the Orange Free State and which represents the most characteristic building type of the early Republican period. It is also an example of the earliest town houses which have been pre served in the Orange Free State. The adjoining building with its Victorian characteristics and the dwelling-house form a functional unit
