    The Apartheid Museum, close to downtown Johannesburg, focuses on the notorious system of racial discrimination that became synonymous with South Africa from 1948 (when the white-minority National Party was voted into power) until 1994, the year in which the country held its first fully democratic elections.

      Access details
      Guided tours have to be pre-booked and are only offered to group of 15 people or more. Plan a two-hour visit to the museum if you want to engage briefly with the exhibitions. School bookings should be made at least 4 to 6 weeks in advance. There are wheelchair ramps in every wing of the museum. Secure parking is available on-site.
