Site History
The Glebelands Hostel was built in the 1960s as part of the apartheid government’s push to meet the labour needs of a rapidly industrialising city.
Black migrant workers, many of them from the Eastern Cape, moved to the hostel to work in Durban’s manufacturing and shipping industries.
