Site History
Following the suppression of the Mpondo Revolt, a large number of those who had been arrested were taken to Pretoria where those who had been sentenced to death were hanged and buried without involvement of the families. At the request of the families, the remains of 23 of those who were executed were exhumed from the Mamelodi Cemetery in Pretoria and reburied in the Eastern Cape. The mortal remains, once exhumed, were reburied in June and July 2003 at Ngquza Hill near Flagstaff and Kananda Hill near Port Elizabeth Court Chambers, Queen Street Mbizana.
