The Hankey Massacre Heroes Memorial was erected in memory of six members of Hankey Youth Congress who were shot dead by state security agents at Hankey on International Workers Day in May 1986: Sipho Siziba; Monde Mjijwa; Vuyo Katoo; Msondezi Sibengile; Vusumzi Landu and Sandile Mjacu.
