Proposal Description
Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd, Limpopo Operating Unit (LOU) intends to construct a Medium Voltage (MV) power line for the above-mentioned project. The power line is approximately 514m in length and will T-off from the existing power line between pole number RH92/56/18 and RH92/56/19(refer to the Span plan sheets and the Pegging Coordinates for more information). The line will be built on Portion 9 of Uitvlugt 79JR, Portion 4 of Kameel Rivier 77 JR, and Rem of Elandsoewer 707 JR. The area is under the jurisdiction of Bela-Bela Local Municipality, Waterberg District Municipality, Limpopo Province.
Environmental Screening of the powerline route was conducted during pegging of the power line route by the Survey team and site verification done by the Environmental Practitioner which led to the generation of the servitude planning documents [Distribution Environmental Screening Document (DESD), Wayleave, Span plan and Pegging coordinates attached for your reference]. Heritage resources such as properly fenced off gave yards according were not observed on site, see 6.3 of the DESD. The project is within a pre-dominantly a farming area. Other current land use activities observed in the area include existing roads, existing powerline, agricultural activities and Property boundary fence. Given the observation that the area is already disturbed, Eskom LOU here by notifies SAHRA of the proposed construction of the powerline which is more than 300M in length. However, should any of the heritage resources, including graves or human remains be encountered or discovered during construction, Eskom shall immediately cease construction, inform SAHRA office, other relevant Department and as soon as possible contract a professional archaeologist to inspect the findings and conduct investigation as prescribed by the Act .
