Proposal Description
The applicant wishes to develop a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Energy Generation Facility with an onsite substation, power lines, and other associated infrastructure at the Wonderkop Smelter. The generation capacity will be 300 megawatts (MW).
Six (6) potential sites have been identified for the development of the PV facility and these are located on Portion 0 (RE), 13, 16, and 22 (RE) of the Farm Brakspruit 299 JQ within the Rustenburg Local Municipality, Bojanala District, North West Province. The proposed project area is approximately 3, 5km west of the town Marikana and 2km south-east of the town Photshaneng. The centre point of the six sites are as follows: 25°42'2.82"S and 27°25'24.59"E; 25°41'48.16"S and 27°24'14.51"E; 25°41'48.46"S and 27°23'50.76"E; 25°42'6.38"S and 27°24'4.15"E; 25°43'22.18"S and 27°24'22.17"E and 27°24’5.03”E.
