Proposal Description
The activities entail the proposed addition to the authorised Phala Solar Power Plant on Extent of Portion 4 of the farm Turfbult No. 494, Registration Division KR, situated within the Bela-Bela Local Municipality area of jurisdiction. The town of Bela-Bela is located approximately 2km north of the proposed development (refer to the attached locality maps).
The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for the Phala Solar Power Plant (DEFF ref: (14/12/16/3/3/2/2266) was lodged in January 2023 and the Environmental Authorisation (EA) was granted on 08 August 2023. This application relates to the expansion of the approved project footprint. The total additional footprint will be approximately 170 hectares. The property on which the facility will be constructed will be leased by Phala Solar Power Plant (RF) (Pty) Ltd. from the property owner, for the lifespan of the project (minimum of 20 years).
