PGS Heritage has been appointed by Anglo-American Platinum Mogalakwena Mine, to affect the relocation of graves located on the Farms Overysel 815 LR, Zwartfontein 818 LR, Blinkwater 820 LR and Sandsloot 236 KR, Mokopane, Limpopo Province. The graves will be affected by mining activities within the Mogalakwena Mine project area. They are to be moved to existing formal cemeteries or informal traditional areas as selected by the next-of-kin. Of the 50 graves identified to be relocated, 5 graves are older than 60 years as identified by the next-of-kin, and the dates of 22 graves are not known by the next-of-kin. They will therefore also be regarded as older than 60 years as per the National Heritage Resources Act (25 of 1999).

This is a section 36(3) permit application is being re-issued as the stakeholder engagement processes took longer than expected and the first permit lapsed, and the first permit is Permit ID 3476. The 27 graves to be exhumed and relocated from the Mogalawena Mine's mining area to the Rooibokfontein Cemetery and the Sekuruwe Cemetery, which are tribal authority cemetery. Within the 27 graves under applications, graves site MMC72_01 and MMC72_02 had to undergo additional stakeholder engagement because the initial family member identified was unable to be present for the relocation of these two graves, and new additional next-of-kin had to be identified.
