Kwaggafontein BESS, Remainder of Kwaggafontein 2300 near Bloemfontein in the Free State Province

The Kwaggafontein BESS project involves the design, development, and construction of a large-scale energy storage system and its associated grid infrastructure. Located in Quaggafontein within the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, near Bloemfontein in the Free State, this project is essential for stabilizing the regional energy supply by storing and distributing power to the national grid. The Kwaggafontein BESS will contribute to the diversification and stability of South Africa’s electricity supply, in line with the objectives of the Integrated Resource Plan 2019 (IRP). The BESS will have a capacity of up to 200 MW/8000 MWh.
