Proposal Description
Lebone Energy Facility (RF) (Pty) Ltd (Lebone) is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) wholly owned by Pele Green Energy (Pty) Ltd and is proposing to develop the Lebone Energy Facility (Lebone) located in the Masilonyana Local Municipality,
Lejweleputswa District Municipality, Free State Province.
The proposed Lebone project is located approximately 1 km from the town of Theunissen in the Masilonyana Local Municipality, Lejweleputswa District Municipality, Free State Province. The project site covers 234 ha and comprises of a single property/farm portion (Karreebooms Vallei 258 (Portion 2)).
The Lebone Energy Facility project site is proposed to accommodate the following infrastructure, which will enable the project to supply a contracted capacity of up to 200 MW, with a 300 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
• Temporary laydown areas which will accommodate storage and assembly areas,
• On-site substations to facilitate the connection between the Solar PV facility and the electricity grid,
• Access roads to the site inclusive of stormwater infrastructure, aligned along existing provincial roads (R 30),
• Internal roads between project components inclusive of stormwater infrastructure,
• Operation and Maintenance buildings including offices; and
• Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
In order to evacuate the energy generated by the project to the national grid, the Lebone Energy Facility will be connecting to the approved, future Mbalala Switching Station earmarked for completion in 2026, which forms part of the approved Sonvanger Solar Power Plant (RF) (Pty) Ltd and associated infrastructure.
SLR Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SLR) has been appointed by Lebone Energy (RF) Pty Ltd as the independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) to undertake the required S&EIA process.
