Final comment
The Burial Grounds and Graves Unit notes the HCMP and has no objection to it. The following additional
measures are recommended:
1. A buffer-zone of at-least 10m must be established and maintained around the graves.
2. If the sites cannot be retained in situ, a social consultation process in terms of Chapter XI of the NHRA
Regulations, must be carried out to identify the descendants of the burials in the cemetery. Upon
agreement with the families of the deceased, grave relocation permit application must be logged on
SAHRIS in terms of section 36 of the NHRA.
