Proposed Development of the Hartebeesfontein Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Electrical Grid Infrastructure (EGI) Corridor near Orkney in the North West

The application is prepared for registration of the project in terms of the ‘Norm for the Exclusion of Identified Activities Associated with the Development and Expansion of Battery Storage Facilities in Areas of Low or Medium Environmental Sensitivity, published on 27 March 2024’. The registration of the project is to feed power from the proposed BESS into the national grid via the Hermes MTS. An HIA was submitted to SAHRA on 12 April 2024, and a Final Decision on the case was received on 23 July 2024. Subsequently, the layout has been amended. This report addresses the proposed amendment. The amended project components are the following:
Grid Connection Corridor – maximum 250 m width. A 31m 132kV powerline servitude will be registered within this
4-6m wide service and maintenance road within the final powerline servitude
Eskom Switching Station Site – 1ha
