REFERRAL LETTER
The permit application in respect of the above, received and reviewed on 12 March 2025 by the KwaZulu-Natal Amafa and Research Institute (The Institute) refers.
Amongst other things the following was discussed:
- The committee noted that building had remained largely intact despite minor alterations but it appeared to have been neglected in recent years.
- The committee further took notice of the listed building diagonally opposite (596 Peter Mokaba Road) and a listed building at 14 Waverton Road.
- Other buildings in the area formed a streetscape but Amafa had approved conversion to double storey at 35 Waverton Road.
- The application was incomplete as the photographs submitted were insufficient and did not include internal photographs.
- The committee also noted that the windows at the rear had been changed to aluminium frames.
- An inspection would be carried out if it can be fitted into the next round of inspections in Durban.
- Public Participation had been limited to the immediate neighbors and a poster had not been placed on the entrances to the property.
FURTHER REQUIREMENTS
- The committee required the submission of photographs of all four sides of the buildings on site and photographs of the interior.
- A Form I application must be submitted, alternatively previously approved plans showing the replacement of the rear windows with aluminum frames must be submitted.
- The HOC members would inspect if possible.
Public Participation: a poster must be placed on the entrances to the property.
