Exemption of Ottery Cape Town

HERITAGE WESTERN CAPE

EXEMPTION OF THE GEOGRAPHICAL AREA FOR THE OTTERY EXEMPTION AREA, BOUNDED BY GOVAN MBEKI, OLD LANSDOWNE, STRANFONTEIN, MELVILLE AND FRITZ ROADS, CAPE TOWN FROM SECTION 34 OF THE NATIONAL HERITAGE RESOURCES ACT (NHRA, ACT 25 OF 1999).

By virtue of the powers vested in Heritage Western Cape (HWC), as the provincial heritage resources authority for the province of the Western  Cape and in accordance with a resolution of the HWC Council dated 31 May 2024; HWC hereby formally exempts the geographical area called     the Ottery Exemption Area, Cape Town, and as more fully described in the schedule below, from the requirements of Section 34(1) and (2) of the National Heritage Resources Act 1999, Act no. 25 of 1999 (‘‘the NHRA’’).

PLACEMENT ON HERITAGE REGISTER IN TERMS OF SECTION 30(2) OF THE NATIONAL HERITAGE RESOURCES ACT (ACT 25 OF 1999) (‘‘THE  NHRA’’)

The following individual heritage resources which have been identified within the Ottery Exempted Area are to be placed on the Heritage Register  in terms of Section30(2) of the NHRA as grade III heritage resources.

1. The Philippi Evangelical Luther Church
2. The avenue of mature Eucalyptus Trees on Old Strandfontein Road
