Amendment of Environmental Authorisation for Continental Cement (Pty) Ltd

A mining right was granted to Continental Cement (Pty) Ltd to quarry limestone and and establish a clinker manufacturing facility to produce cement. The portion of land on which the quarry is located is zoned as Mining. The portion of land on which the Cement factory (clinker manufacturing facility) is located is zoned as Industrial. An application was submitted to the Limpopo DMRE to remove the portion of land (surface area) on which the cement factory is located from the mining right, as it does not entail a mining activity. The Limpopo DMRE requested Continental Cement (Pty) Ltd to undertake a Basic Assessment. There is not change in the operations. It is a splitting of the two activities (quarrying of limestone and cement manufacture). No new Listed Activities are triggered. There is no change in the significance of environmental impacts.
