The South African Heritage Resources Agency Development Applications Unit (SAHRA DAU) has noted that these graves will be impacted by development and therefore, an application for the exhumation and relocation for the affected graves is submitted. However, the SAHRA DAU further notes that of the 25 graves listed in the Grave Register in the PGS Heritage (Pty) Ltd document no. PGS PJ FRM 002 06 (page 7-8), only 9 graves are generally protected in terms of section 36 of the NHRA.
The graves protected by section 36 of the NHRA are: A2/02, A2/03, A2/04, A2/05, A2/11, A2/15, A2/17, A2/19, and A2/20. The remaining graves are younger than 60 years and cannot form part of the application to SAHRA, therefore, approval for the relocation of these graves must be obtained from the relevant authorities.
The section 36 of the NHRA permit application has been approved. The permit will contain additional conditions regarding the process that must be adhered to.
