REFERRAL LETTER

The permit application in respect of the above, received and reviewed on 07 May 2025 by the KwaZulu-Natal Amafa and Research Institute (The Institute) refers.

Please be advised as follows:

  • The meeting was attended by community members, Nirvana Naidoo and Stuart Bastow, who pointed out that the original form and interior were largely intact.
  • Ros Devereux reported that the house was largely in its original form and proposed that revised proposals could preserve the overall form of the house while allowing for conservation of the house by concentrating most of the new work at the rear, with some impact on the roof at the rear.
  • The architect agreed to explore the possibilities and submit a revised proposal.
  • It was noted that very little work had commenced, and a Form A application would need to be submitted for the permit to complete the work.

 The application was therefore referred.

FURTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • A Form A application must be submitted together with a revised proposal that shows the new work concentrated at the rear of the site, leaving most of the house intact.

Written responses/requests for reconsideration of the application or consideration of new information must be loaded to the case on SAHRIS (email [email protected]) within 30 days of the date of this letter or any requirements/decisions contained herein will be considered final.  Extensions of this time frame can be requested upon receipt of motivation.

Required additional information or revised drawings must be submitted within six months from the date of this letter or the application will lapse and a new application will be required.

THIS LETTER DOES NOT CONSTITUTE FORMAL APPROVAL OF THE PROPOSAL SUBMITTED TO THE INSTITUTE.  UNAUTHORISED WORK CARRIED OUT ON THE ABOVE SITE WILL BE IN CONTRAVENTION OF THE KWAZULU-NATAL AMAFA AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE ACT (5 of 2018).
