Proposal Description
The Free State Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport (CSRT) has undertaken to rehabilitate the provincial roads throughout its
area of their jurisdiction. This project started in 2013. The objective is to ameliorate the condition of the roads while creating job opportunities
for the people of communities and empowering local contractors.
The road from Clocolaan to Marquard (R708) was identified by CSRT as a key route that requires special maintenance as the road is in a dire
condition and a safety risk to all road users. CSRT (The Applicant) intends to establish nine borrow pits in the Setsoto Local Municipality, these are strategic sites to acquire good quality road building material for the special maintenance project.
The applicant is thus hereby applying for a mining permit for the nine borrow pit developments to the Department of Mineral Resources and
Energy (DMRE) with their offices in Welkom, Free State in accordance with Section 22 of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002 (Act 28 of 2002) as amended
