Proposal Description
The project entails upgrading and rehabilitation works of road DR080167 in order to restore and improve the infrastructure as a whole, such that it is raised to a higher standard and the service life is extended. It is confirmed through preliminary geotechnical investigations that the current in-situ soils, subbase, and base are substandard; thus, they have inadequate capacity for traffic loading. It is also assumed that road failures are attributable to increased traffic loading and poor construction techniques. It is however evident that poor drainage has contributed immensely to the failures that are evident on this road section in question.
Apart from the road works the other main works consist of construction and rehabilitation
of five bridges in order to improve the river / stream crossing that is currently a hazard for all the road users.
The anticipated scope of work will entail but not limited to, the following:
Construction of pavement layers and asphalt surfacing.
The construction or shaping of gravel sidewalks within the road reserve.
Construction of new appropriate drainage structures
Construction of subsurface side drains at designated sections.
Construction of subsoil drainage and erosion protection.
Installation of road-side furniture throughout, road markings and road signage.
Upgrading of bridge structures along the route.
Widening of bridge deck to accommodate two shoulder lanes
Accommodation of traffic: Construction of a temporary deviation
Provision of Public Transport stops (e.g. bus stops) downstream of intersections at the 6 villages, schools, cemeteries
Provision of Non-Motorized Transport Infrastructure (e.g. Pedestrian sidewalks) where the road crosses the 6 villages, schools and cemeteries
Provision of signalized intersections/ traffic lights where road crosses 6 villages, schools, cemeteries, when warranted.
Provision of street lighting for pedestrian sidewalks for the 6 villages, schools, cemeteries, if required.
Fencing of the road reserves on both sides for the entire length of road, if required.
