Proposal Description
ABO Kwartel Solar Energy Facility (Pty) Ltd, is proposing the development of a photovoltaic (PV) solar energy facility (known as the ABO Kwartel Solar Energy Facility) located on the Remaining Extent of the Farm Rondeboscheje 445, The Farm Laagpan 441, Portion 1 of Farm Ganspan 448 and Portion 2 of Farm Ganspan 448, Registration Division LS, approximately 20 km east of the town of Mogwadi in the Limpopo Province.
The solar energy facility will comprise several arrays of PV panels and associated infrastructure and will have a contracted capacity of up to 270 MWac.
The development area is situated within the Molemole Local Municipality within the Capricorn District Municipality. The site is accessible via the existing D1200 road intersecting the development area, and is located off the N1, and other public and provincial roads that pass the site.
The proposed ABO Kwartel Solar Energy Facility (SEF) will cover approximately 1080 ha and will include the following infrastructure:
• PV modules and mounting structures;
• Inverters and transformers;
• Battery Energy Storage System (BESS);
• Site and internal access roads up to 10m wide;
• Operation and Maintenance buildings including a gate house, ablution facilities, security building, control centre, offices, warehouses and workshops for storage and maintenance;
• Temporary and permanent laydown area;
• For health, safety and security reasons, the facility will be required to be fenced off from the surrounding farms; and;
• Facility grid connection infrastructure, including:
o Up to 33kV cabling between the facility components and the on-site facility (IPP) substation;.
o A 33kV/132kV IPP substation;
o A 132kV Eskom switching station , and
o A 132kV Loop-In_Loop-Out (LILO) overhead power line (OHL) from the switching station into the existing Dendron-Tabor 1 132kV or Dendron-Tabor 2 132kV overhead power lines. An up to 240m wide and 575m long grid connection corridor has been identified for assessment.
