Proposal Description
The City of Cape Town (CoCT) Municipality has identified the existing Ø300mm distribution and supply pipeline in Harbour Road to be suffering from pipe leaks and bursts due to its close proximity to trees, which results in frequent shut-down times for repairs to the water pipeline. After investigation, the CoCT, and concluded that the existing pipeline should be replaced with a new Ø400mm HDPE Class 20 pipe water pipeline, and moved to avoid trees which leads to pipeline burst and shut-downs. The pipeline will be installed in the road verge due to limited space in the verge and existing services.
The Phase 4 pipeline aims to improve the operation of the network by having a dedicated supply pipeline along Harbour Road linking to the existing pipes at the Princess and Harbour Road intersection with the existing pipes at the harbour and Atlantic Skipper Street Intersection. The pipeline will be installed in the road verge due to limited space in the verge and existing services. The pipeline is approximately 1200m in length.
An additional pipeline is being proposed, which will be installed just south of the proposed water main, which will run from Salisbury Road and Hout Bay Harbour Road intersection until the Atlantic Skipper Street and Hout Bay Harbour Road intersection. The pipeline is approximately 1km in length, which will be a Ø250mm HDPE Class 16 water pipeline. The pipeline will be laid along the southern lane road shoulder in the same trench as the proposed Phase 4 pipeline. All water connections on the existing Ø300mm pipeline will be transferred to the new VO1 pipeline, with two fire hydrants being installed on the pipeline.
