Interim Comment
The SAHRA Development Applications Unit (DAU) notes the submitted Heritage Impact Assessment and draft Scoping Report.
Since the development is located in an area of High palaeontological sensitivity a field-based PIA is required. The assessment must be undertaken by a qualified palaeontologist and the report must comply with the 2012 Minimum Standards: Palaeontological Components of Heritage Impact Assessments. The SAHRA 2012 Minimum Standards: Palaeontological Component of Heritage Impact Assessments makes reference to a Letter of Recommendation for Exemption that is to be submitted if there is no likelihood that palaeontological heritage will be impacted. Further comments will be issued upon receipt of the draft Environmental Impact Assessment Report (DEIA) and the above palaeontological desktop study/ Letter of Recommendation for Exemption.
