Proposal Description
Habitat Link Consulting (Pty) Ltd has been appointed by Mr Hendrik Johannes Smith (the Proponent) to submit an application for the abovementioned development in terms of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) (Act No. 107 of 1998, as amended). The proponent intends to conduct a Basic Assessment process and Water Use License Authorization (WULA) for the proposed development of storage dam and associated pipeline infrastructure, located on Portions 12 and 19 of Farm No. 12 (Onverwacht), Cambria, within the Kouga Local Municipality, Eastern Cape Province
The proposed development will involve the construction of a storage dam, which will have a dam wall of 5 m (metres) high, 150 m in length and 40 m in width. The total dam capacity is estimated at 30 cubic metres (30 000 litres) and will be used for the purpose of irrigation of tobacco and citrus crops. The proposed development will also include the clearance of an additional 0.63 ha of vegetation around the proposed storage dam along with the routing of a new pipeline that will extend from the abovementioned proposed dam to the Proponent’s existing main water supply line, located approximately 800 m south from the dam. The pipeline will be installed within existing internal access roads.
