The Proposed Magpie PV 1 Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Energy Facility and Associated Infrastructure near Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal Province

The Applicant, Magpie PV 1 (Pty) Ltd, is proposing the construction of a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Energy Facility and Associated Infrastructure (including an onsite [IPP] substation, Eskom switching station, Battery Energy Storage System [BESS], internal and perimeter access roads, operational and maintenance buildings, temporary and permanent laydown areas), known as Magpie PV 1, located on Portions 1 and 5 of the Farm Vaalspruit No. 115 , Registration Division HT. The site is located approximately 25 km north-east from the Newcastle CBD in the KwaZulu-Natal Province. Magpie PV 1 will comprise several arrays of PV panels and associated infrastructure and will have a contracted capacity of up to 240 megawatts (MW). The development area is situated within the Emadlangeni Local Municipality, Amajuba District Municipality. The site is accessible via the existing R34 (Regional Road) which is located to the north of the PV facility.
