    Proposal Description
After multiple complaints from the Florida Residents Association regarding the loss of water (flooding) at the dam wall caused by severe damage to the dam wall. Johannesburg Roads Agency initiated an investigation on the integrity of the dam wall and the potential for flooding between Lake Florida and Fleurhof Dam in a dam break scenario. The structure was found in a poor condition and the extent of the damage noticed was significant to warrant rehabilitation and upgrade.
The project will entail the demolition of the existing Florida Lake spillway structure and replace it by construction a new spillway, rehabilitation of an eastern channel downstream of Florida Lake Spillway to Albertina Sisulu Road and construction of a new western channel from Florida Lake to Albertina Sisulu Road.
The Florida Lake spillway is located at geographical coordinates 26°10'52.49"S 27°54'27.55"E. The existing dam wall has a weir of approximately 35m in length, 1.2m in height and a broad length of 0.48m.
The main objective of the proposed project is to obtain the required environmental approvals, in accordance with the provisions of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) (Act 107 of 1998) and the National Water Act (NWA) (Act 36 of 1998).
